The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has cleared Sesi-Edem Company Limited and its Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Gabriel Kwamigah-Atokple, of any wrongdoing in a $14.3 million gold transaction dispute.
In an official report issued in April 2026, the CID stated that it found “nothing incriminating” against the company in relation to its dealings with JG Resources Limited.
The case began in December 2025 when a Turkish company, TAVEST FZCO, filed a complaint through its lawyers. The company said it had paid $14.315 million to JG Resources Limited for 50 kilograms of gold. However, it received gold worth only $7.5 million, leaving a balance of about $6.8 million.
Following the complaint, police arrested and questioned directors of JG Resources Limited, Kwaku Appiah Yeboah and Papa Yaw Owusu Ankomah. They were later granted bail. Another supplier, Frank Kofi Adjetey Wood of Frank City Mineral and Oil Company Limited, was also arrested and granted bail.
Investigators found that JG Resources had sourced gold from several suppliers, including Sesi-Edem Company Limited.
Dr. Kwamigah-Atokple cooperated with investigators and provided documents to support his company’s transactions. The CID confirmed that Sesi-Edem had a valid contract with JG Resources and had delivered 32.8 kilograms of gold as agreed.
The findings support an earlier ruling by the Adenta High Court in March 2026, which also cleared Sesi-Edem of any fraud. The court ruled that the company operated within the law and that there was no basis for money laundering claims. It further ordered the unfreezing of the company’s accounts.
While Sesi-Edem has been cleared, police say investigations into the remaining aspects of the case are still ongoing, and the main suspects from JG Resources remain on bail.
